little things
I spoke to mom last night on the phone.
She gave me the updates on all her phone calls and meetings
and then confessed she was joining...
going on an innocent enough little 'field trip' up to the 'outlets' with some of the 'residents'
but going/joining non the less?!?
She's never been a do with others type.
She did...
and others always wanted to be doing whatever she was doing!
But that isn't even what I think is the big thing about this whole move/adjustment/transition thing....
The big thing is the little thing she said kind of in defense of her decision to 'join in'.
She told me she's never not had to answer to anyone before, she's never been able to just get up and go.
And it wasn't that she was feeling lonely about not having to be there for someone,
It was as if at her age she had discovered a new freedom!
Which is quite eye-opening to me... I have always seen her as a free spirit... doing just what she wanted when she wanted... but that's not how she's felt it... to her it's been different... it's always been about... the kids... the spouse... the house... the business...
And then just after that phone conversation my husband left for his annual men's retreat for the weekend.
So last night I had my own rare little taste of freedom!
I went out shopping at night!
We never go out at night!
We have our dinner and then our office time...then our sofa time...then it's bed time!
Unless it's a date night or some event...
but to go grocery shopping or malling!?!?
Those are things I take care of in the day!
Never in the evening, except at Christmas time!
Which is exactly what being out at night feels like to me!
As each day now actually is leading us closer and closer to Christmas!
But first our women's group's pre-Advent Tea!?!?
As Christmas looms out there in the commercial world, we are trying to set our minds in an Advent state...
before we realize man, we've missed the first week or two...?!?
We are trying to be conscious and intentional as we enter into this crazy wonderful, time of the year.
