giving thanks...not so far away

DSC_0566"The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer,
the top of the live-long year,
like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel
when it pauses in its turning.
The weeks that come before
are only a climb from balmy spring,
and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn"
From the beginning of Tuck Everlasting,
                       by Natalie Babbitt:

[We were flipping thru channels the other night and caught
Tuck Everlasting....with Rorey!
I had never seen it before.....
and then this morning this quote shows up on facebook?!?!?]

yesterday I noticed my 'birthday foxglove' was actually blooming again!
and the tulip magnolia across the street!?!?
and the choral bells!?!?

very odd...since Spring was so long ago...
but perhaps we are 'only a climb from balmy spring'?!?!?
This Saturday morning the air is amazingly cool
       {absolutely perfect weather for the wedding today!}
        {and for the meeting of the parents!}
but instead of that delightful feeling in July
when the air suddenly feels a degree cooler
when the cool is a welcome break
      oh to breathe
      and move again
'it'll be a good night for sleeping'

even as comfortable as this sweet coolness is
to slip on my jean jacket as I sit on the swing
and suck the foam from around the rim of my cappuchino
it's roasted aroma all thru the house

this cool sends a dreadful chill thru me
this is not a welcome break from the heat
this in an indicator of the change to come

and as much as I love autumn
      perhaps my favorite season?!?!
It's always far too short
then winter is upon us....
and of course I love winter too!
but

today
could be the most perfect day of summer
"the top of the ferris wheel"

and the next couple of weeks
that lead us into Autumn....
that favorite time of the year always
    but especially this year
could lead us into the most perfect Autumn ever

because it not only brings
our favorite holiday
Thanksgiving....
but....the long awaited coming home
of  'the far away family'

and I am grateful and anxious and nervous and excited with anticipation?!?!?
...Thanksgiving...
