a slightly different St. Lucia...

last night when I should have been home

making the St. Lucia cookies

we were out celebrating lizzie lou's eleventh birthday

I didn't even remember it was St. Lucia's day
till this morning
     after ordering flowers
     and dropping the hubby off at his office
     and stopping at two stores to make a couple returns

     [and one final purchase!]

all before I had to be at work

I'm walking thru the grocery store
planning out the week's menu in my head
tonight and tomorrow church stuff...
grilled salmon, pepper, onion, and broccoli salsa, rice
tortellini
the 36th anniversary of our first date is Wednesday?!?
cordon bleu?!?!?

when bam I realize
today is St. Lucia Day!?!?

I totally forgot

so....
after walking home from work in nineteen degrees
I made the cookies!?!?
left some for d & v
and took some to church...still warm!

and now at almost 11:30 at night I have just finished baking!?!?

so instead of hot cocoa and cookies at the butt crack of dawn
it's a nice cold glass of milk and 'frangelica' and a cookie...
right before bed?!?!

traditions are wonderful
and sometimes even better...
with slight alterations!
