our kitchen counter this morning
the recipes from Christmas day
stuck in the windowsill
almond liquor punch, sugar cookies, egg nog...
the gift of a rosemary plant
a baguette
from our bolognese and braciole dinner last night
and an angel food cake with whippy!?!?
the day is over
but the celebration of the season still lingers
there are still piles of gifts
in corners and behind chairs
welcome reminders
that the kids haven't all gone home yet
the cookies
the frangelica and warm milk
in the evenings
and the wonderful lights and decorations remain
I took my mother home yesterday
and we had a lovely talk together over lunch
tomorrow we go to my hon's family
and do it all again with them
snackies and dips
Italian cold cuts and cheese
and more roasted beast
cookies and cheesecake
and gifts for the children
and our "glorified christmas letters" to each other
it truly is a wonderful time of the year
