Untitled
awoke from my dream
to a definition
swirling around in my sleep
to the question
"what is love?!?"
"another before yourself"
"more than patient, more than kind"

I know where that dream came from
but I'm still not sure of the answer

yesterday at mass
before the little children left
for their liturgy
father asked them
what is love?

then he had to rephrase it when all he received were blank stares
he then asked if they were loved
and by who

and with the dream definition
still real in my mind
I read the readings for today
from one of my favorite books
Philippians 2:3-8
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit,
but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
Each of you should look not only to your own interests,
but also to the interests of others.
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
     but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
     being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
     he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!

the dream
and the word
touched me in a very tangible, powerful way
yet the answer
needs to be much more simple
concise
so simple that even a child can grasp it
and articulate it at a moments prompting

God is love
    1 John 4:7
