Sundown
Bob Dylan, If You See Her, Say Hello

I open my door to walk out into my life
frost on the ground
it feels the same as yesterday, and the day before
but somehow everything is different

I walk into a store
Christmas muzak plays
it's that time of year again

suddenly upon us
no one comments or even seems to notice
it just is

I should be more prepared for this
working in the 'industry' as I do
but I never am

Christmas at a personal level
is much different than Christmas in a store

life changes in very tangible ways
sometimes in a moment
sometimes over time
sometimes over and over

but it's never the same
no matter how much it may seem like same old same old
america
not so long ago
this little guy entered our lives
and changed everything

we became grandparents
the child we once held in our arms
had a child

and one night
two years ago
he was here
we watched him learn to crawl
and walk
and then he went away

he was a little six month old baby then
and now he's a little pre-schooler
soon he'll be playing sports
and playing the piano
or the bass!?!
graduating
'becoming a brain surgeon'
meeting a woman
and then
holding his own little ones in his arms

time
it keeps on coming
time
and...there it goes

today
our children's grandparents
went to their away place too...
