six days

Today's reading
Acts 17
In Him we live and breath, and have our being.

I have been here
3 sundays
2 weeks and 3 days
and in 6 days my hubby will be here

the baby will be 2 weeks old tomorrow
he sneezes
he burps
he yawns
he squeeks
he grunts
he hic cups
he looks around
he sleeps
he EATS
his umbillical has fallen off
first bathhe has had his first bath

he is adorable

to be a nonni is different than being a mother

you still speak the same sweet baby language
and sing the same silly snippets of songs
you still rub the arched little back
and sniff and stroke the sweet head
and cup his soft head under your chin
and calm him with a finger to suck
and still spin and sway and walk the room
and press your lips to his forhead
you change the precious skinny little bum
and congratulate and coo
over every body function and fluid
that comes out of his little self

but at 51 when you look
into those dark inquisitive trusting eyes
you see so much more than you did when you were 25
and just trying to savour those baby days
because everyone around you is telling you....
about how quickly the days and years will go by...

yet ahead of us it seemed the days just stretched on and on
we had all the time in the world

and now here I am
25 years later
our baby looked at us with those same dark eyes
he had at birth
and told us he by himself
would walk across spain
that he was getting married
that they themselves were having a child!??!?

and now they do

and they look into his eyes

but they cannot yet see
that before they know it
their baby will be 25

and they too will wonder where did those baby days go...

25 years
just like that...

my 3 weeks have gone by
just like that
we'll have 2 weeks all together with both us grandparents here!?!?
the last one our daughter, anutie coco will be here too

and then we go back to our homes, our jobs, our lives...
where our youngest son, 20!
will soon be looking at us with his big, dark, inquisitive eyes
and saying  good-bye as he goes off to study a semester in Italy

My life is not my own
let alone are the lives of my children mine....

day by day
year by year
we live
we breath
we move
we have our being
IN HIM

When I was a young mother a very wise man (my dentist!) told me, "The days are slow but the years are quick." Oh, how right he was!
