patchouli morning

DSC_0685
another hot autumn day
I will welcome them as long as they come...
it's dreadful in the summer
when you know there is no end in sight
but I cling to this heat now
knowing that soon coolness will creep in
to stay

there's been amazing movement in the air
all day
not a cool breeze
just a constant movement
a mighty warm wind

it swirled falling leaves around me in the road
as I drove to women's group
and brought a blast of patchouli past me
as I pulled away from Starbuck's
ushering me right back into autumn days while in art school!

barefoot
lunches
under a tree
between classes

walking
...everywhere
studying
...and doing all nighter projects
and working
...to pay the rent

I was my daughter's age...
my daughter who today
is sharing her favorite stomping grounds and swimming holes
from her childhood
with her boyfriend
on this glorious autumn day

so long ago
yet as yesterday
as if nothing has happened since then and today?!?!?
and as if tomorrow
these days of summer into fall
will soon be winter

our sunflower is blooming again!
