our wonderful life...
dressing up
going out
celebrating
life's milestones
life's blessings
and hours later across this same threshold
once darkness fell
walked
a little girl
who somehow found herself alone
she came to sleep in the safety of our family
but only for the night
she didn't have shoes to start school
and one of our children
who has always had school shoes... and church shoes, and gym shoes, and soccer shoes...
bought her a pair
...and a pair for her brother
and backpacks!
my hearts swells with pride
for compassion
and aches with pain
for little girls
and little boys
