the first to fall

I get in my car Friday morning to go to my much anticipated, anxiously awaited women's group...
'10 @ Zen at ten'. I get in my car which is parked under the perfectly pruned Tulip Magnolia tree (which has suddenly decided to bloom again?!?! when it usually blooms very early spring........?!?)

And there on my windshield is a leaf from the maple across the street stuck in my windshield. Early August...and yet autumn's ominous presence is felt...

Somehow everything is sweeter, to be savored. Whether it's this time with the women... one will be going to nursing school this fall, and unable to continue to meet with us, and one will be moving with her work...
I say that so lightly...my best friend is moving away...ugh, my heart hurts every time I think of it.
Yet another thing that I hold loosely to as summer makes way for autumn....
Today we are spending the afternoon together. Taking a little drive to her daughter's new home in a hollow in the woods, to pick up her grand daughter for a sleep over.......
Her hands on her mint tea

My son will go back to Ohio...junior year. and his 'lovely' will be in Finland...a semester abroad. She's anxious and nervous and excited and just full of anticipation........They've been experiencing that 'hold loosely yet savor each moment ' all summer as they have both been anticipating this trip.
It is sweet how even the simplest of things becomes special when experienced in that loosely held light. Even a quick Friday night meal before the softball game of grilled burgers and fries and a fresh tomato.

blue cream soda somehow always makes any occassion speacial
and no matter how big you get, how old you are......new shoes for the new school year.....says it all
"May the road rise up to meet you....."
as you journey into eternity..........

This is a really nice post. Nice story and pictures. New shoes are definitely the best. And August sure is bringing fall closer.
