"We belong to a generation that wants to see
the results of our work
We want to be productive and see
with our own eyes what we have made
But that is not the way of God's Kingdom
Often our witness for God does not lead to tangible results
Jesus himself died as a failure on a cross
There was no success there to be proud of
Still the fruitfulness of Jesus' life
is beyond any human measure
As faithful witnesses of Jesus we have to trust
that our lives too
will be fruitful
even though we cannot see their fruit
The fruit of our lives may be visible only to those who live after us
What is important is how well we love
God will make our love fruitful
whether we see that fruitfulness or not"

August 11 Bread for the Journey
but in my little life today
...I do see...
the first fallen leaf...
the Heather blooming in our sidewalk garden
the shadow of a cross from the morning sun coming in
thru the foyer window
I didn't see it when I took the photo
only when my brother commented
on what I see 'with my little eye'
did it become evident to me?!?!?
the voluntary sunflower along the driveway
that I have instructed everyone not to pull
because it isn't a weed!
I see the day coming over what used to be Tebs' bedroom
...where the new kid moved in yesterday
and I'm aware that today TeBD has left the comfort
of his big brothers
and begins his pilgrimage upon the Cammino di Assisi
today's reading is actually the Ezekial 9 reading
that mentions the 'Thau'
the symbol of St. Francis!?!?
and all this in the few moments
as I return from an early morning dental appointment
with a mouth full of novacaine?!?
I am hungry and ready to eat
and make my cappuchino and nutella toast
the house taking on it's familiar morning smell
of dial soap from my hon's shower
blended with fair trade espresso beans
I make my way to the porch
and so await that hot creamy brew
after a restless hot and humid night
only to realize my mouth is quite numb....
this too will come
later....
